Google DeepMind has introduced Gemini Omni, a multimodal model that generates finished videos from text, image, and audio — up to 10 seconds, in 1080p, with synchronized audio. For SMBs, this matters because it's the first mainstream pipeline that enables marketing reels without a video team and without editing software. At the same time, the EU AI Act's labeling requirement for AI-generated content takes effect on August 2, 2026.
Gemini Omni makes AI video accessible for SMBs — but only those who know the labeling requirement starting August 2026 can use it in compliance with the rules.
What is Gemini Omni — and what can the model do?
Gemini Omni is Google DeepMind's first "any-to-any" model: text, images, audio, and video can be combined as input, and the model generates a video clip with synchronized audio from them. It was introduced on May 19, 2026, at the Google I/O Developer Keynote in Mountain View.
The first available variant is called Gemini Omni Flash. A Pro model has been announced but has no release date yet (Nicole Brichtova, Product Lead: "When we feel like we're at a step change above Flash").
| Dimension | Value |
|---|---|
| Input | Text + image + audio + video (combinable) |
| Output | Video with synchronized audio |
| Video length | 4, 6, 8, or 10 seconds |
| Resolutions | 720p, 1080p, 4K |
| Aspect ratios | 16:9 (landscape) + 9:16 (portrait/reels) |
Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, describes Omni as a "world model" with an understanding of physics, motion, and space. The model understands scenes — it doesn't just generate pixels, it models physical relationships (TechCrunch, 5/19/2026).
Gemini Omni combines text, image, and audio into 10-second video clips at up to 4K — a single model for the entire input mix.
Is Gemini Omni available in Germany?
Yes — with restrictions. The Gemini app and Google Flow have been available globally since May 19, 2026, and access also works in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. YouTube Shorts and YouTube Create even offer Omni features for free.
However, SynthID verification in Chrome and Google Search — the ability to automatically recognize AI-generated videos as such — has not yet been fully rolled out for regulatory reasons in the EU/DACH region. The reason is ongoing coordination with the DSA, DMA, and EU AI Act (Pillitteri, 5/23/2026). As of June 21, 2026, the developer API via Vertex AI has neither a GA date nor public pricing.
Gemini Omni can be used in Germany via the Gemini app and YouTube. The AI-detection feature in Chrome and Search is not yet fully active in the EU.
What sets Omni apart from Sora, Veo, and Runway?
The difference isn't primarily in video quality, but in the access model:
- Gemini Omni Flash: Multimodal (text+image+audio as input), conversational editing in Google Flow, free YouTube Shorts path. Mainstream-ready from day one.
- OpenAI Sora 2: Cinematic physics simulation, API-only since April 2026, around $0.50 per second. Enterprise focus.
- Google Veo 3.1 (Vertex AI): Enterprise stability, Workspace integration, $0.03/second (Lite, without audio). Stable since October 2025.
- Runway: Professional editing tools, separate subscription. Creator focus.
For SMBs, the difference is concrete: Omni Flash is the first model that works without API programming, without Premiere skills, and without a separate subscription — directly in the Gemini app or free via YouTube.
If you're interested in the Gemini ecosystem in an SMB context, you'll find an overview of the preceding updates in our May 2026 Gemini update.
Gemini Omni is the first AI video model with mainstream access — no developer API or professional software required.
How can SMBs use Gemini Omni concretely?
10 seconds of video sounds short. But 10 seconds in 16:9 or 9:16 with audio covers the most common SMB formats:
- Explainer reels for websites and newsletters: "Here's how our phone agent works in 10 seconds."
- Product snippets for social media: One image + one sentence → a finished Instagram reel.
- YouTube Shorts for organic reach: Free via YouTube Create, no editing needed.
- Training videos with an avatar: Employee avatar via onboarding — with documented consent (GDPR requirement, see below).
What Omni Flash doesn't replace:
- Long-form sales videos (10-second limit).
- Voiceover with a specific employee's voice — Google has deliberately not enabled speech editing of other people's voices.
Conversational editing in Google Flow means: you describe in natural language what should change. No timeline editing, no After Effects learning curve. For businesses with 5 to 20 employees without their own video team, that's the decisive lever.

Gemini Omni covers explainer reels, product snippets, and YouTube Shorts — editing happens via text command, not via timeline.
Self-demo: how we've been living multimodal content pipelines for six months
What Gemini Omni now makes accessible to everyone, we at Amazing Agents have been implementing in our daily content pipeline since early 2026: a research brief goes to our author, images and graphics are created in parallel, and at the end there's a finished blog article with LinkedIn copy, social captions, and — where it makes sense — a video clip. Every day, coordinated automatically.
Our daily AI news pipeline is the concrete example: ten news sources are automatically evaluated, the two most relevant topics are selected, research briefs are created, texts are written, images are generated, everything is deployed — in a coordinated heartbeat cycle. These Dynamic Workflows aren't theory — they're the production routine you're reading right now.
Gemini Omni adds a building block to this pipeline: where static image cards currently sit, 10-second clips could selectively take their place once the API becomes generally available.
The point isn't that Omni replaces our pipeline. The point is: multimodal content pipelines aren't a distant future — they're everyday SMB reality.
We've been running an automated, multimodal content pipeline for six months — Gemini Omni makes the same approach accessible to every SMB.
What must you label starting August 2, 2026?
Starting August 2, 2026, the EU AI Act prescribes two obligations that affect anyone who publishes AI-generated videos:
Art. 50(2) — provider obligation: Google must mark Omni videos as AI-generated in a machine-readable way. This happens via SynthID — an invisible watermark that, according to Google, cannot be disabled — and in parallel via C2PA Content Credentials, which carry edit history and creator identity.
Art. 50(4) — deployer obligation: Anyone who publicly posts Omni videos — and that's you, as an SMB — must visibly label the AI-generation status. SynthID alone isn't enough, because it's invisible.
Concretely: if you publish an Omni clip on Instagram, LinkedIn, or your website, you need a visible notice such as "AI-generated" or the official EU labeling icons from the Code of Practice dated June 10, 2026.
Transition rules: Art. 50(2) has a deadline until December 2, 2026, for systems already on the market before August 2 (AI Omnibus dated 5/7/2026). The deployer obligation under Art. 50(4), however, applies with no transition period.
For employee avatars: If you create a clone of a real person — even with their consent — explicit, documented consent under GDPR is mandatory (BfDI guidance dated 12/22/2025). Google additionally protects against misuse through active voice onboarding and deliberately withholds speech editing of other people's voices.
SynthID marks AI videos invisibly — the visible label (Art. 50(4) EU AI Act, from 8/2/2026) must be added by the deployer themselves.

Frequently asked questions
From when does the labeling requirement apply to my AI videos?
Art. 50(4) of the EU AI Act applies from August 2, 2026, with no transition period. Anyone who publicly posts AI-generated videos must label them visibly. For the machine-readable provider marking (Art. 50(2)), existing systems have a deadline until December 2, 2026.
Is SynthID enough to be EU AI Act compliant?
SynthID fulfills the provider obligation for machine-readable marking (Art. 50(2)). The deployer obligation for visible labeling (Art. 50(4)) must be handled separately — for example with a notice such as "AI-generated" or the official EU icons.
Can I use Gemini Omni in Germany?
Yes, via the Gemini app and YouTube. SynthID verification in Chrome and Google Search is not yet fully rolled out in the EU. The developer API (Vertex AI) has no GA date yet.
Do I need consent for an employee avatar?
Yes. Audio and video clones of real people require explicit, documented consent under GDPR (BfDI guidance, 12/22/2025). Google additionally protects against misuse through active voice onboarding and withholds speech editing of other people's voices.
Gemini Omni vs. Sora 2 — which model for SMBs?
Gemini Omni Flash offers mainstream access via the Gemini app and free YouTube Shorts. Sora 2 is API-only at around $0.50 per second and targets enterprise customers. For SMBs without a developer team, Omni is the more accessible path.
